The biggest jackpot in history has hit $1.6 billion (R105 billion) in the US, according to Business Insider. It was reported by Business Insider.

At least one Mega Millions lottery ticket with all six numbers matched was sold in South Carolina on Tuesday, October 23.

The odds of winning the jackpot were one in 302.5 million or 0.00000033 percent. The lucky winner had to guess five numbers from one to 70 and one from one to 25. As of Monday morning, more than 25 million lottery tickets had been sold.

The winner could either collect $904 million (59.3 billion rubles) outright or receive the full amount in instalments over 30 years (payments would increase by five percent each year).

If there are two or more winners, they will have to divide their winnings into equal parts.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the jackpot has been on the rise since July, when the last big win totaled $543 million (35.6 billion rubles). It went to eleven office workers who jointly bought lottery tickets, from the Californian city of San Jose.
